Green and undulating peace of the edges of the Seine...
Who are we ?
"La Chaîne d'Or" preserves faithfully the name of its ancestor from the eighteenth century which housed the offices of human toll crosses. A huge chain pier between the bank and the neighboring island demarcated as a sort of grant related enough gold to the Treasory such that the "La Chaîne d'Or" deserves its name. In this beautiful Norman mansion founded in 1751, located at the foot of Chateau Gaillard, and along one of the most beautiful meanders of the Seine, Stephanie and Olivier Bicot perpetuate the traditions of hospitality and quality of the warm and tasty house.
Our services
"La Chaîne d'Or" welcomes you in a dining room directly overlooking the Seine. This hotel and restaurant, located just an hour from Paris and near Giverny, offers many advantages for a relaxing stay.
The 12 spacious and bright rooms either overlook the Seine, on the church and its beautiful square, or on the patio of the hotel.
Brief History of "la Chaîne d’Or"
La Chaîne d’Or gets her name from the history of the 18th century, when the house was considered as a toll house. A large chain was crossing the Seine river between the rives and the island. Each boat that wanted to cross the river from La Havre to Paris had to pay a toll. The king was getting so much money from this toll, that people were telling that it was a "golden chain".
"La Chaine d’Or" has been successively an auberge, an hotel, and a coffee shop, just in front of the church, where men were meeting while their wifes were in the church.
After the 2nd world war, the Boirel family proposed a traditionnal cuisine, which was very appreciated from the local guests. Monsieur Boutineau went on with this tradition. Several years later, Monsieur et Madame Foucault, as new owners, decided to propose a gastronomic restaurant and with the help of the Chef, Monsieur Chevalliez, they obtained a Star from the famous Michelin Guide.
When the chef left to buy his own restaurant, Madame Foucaul sold la Chaîne d’Or which had a difficult time for a while.
Today, Stephanie and Olivier Bicot, their team and the Chef Philippe Lallier are very proud to welcome you and to share their passion for the french gastronomy.
We all wish you a very nice stay with us.
